CCE developed the Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination (CPCE) in 1997 to help graduate-level counseling programs assess the readiness of their students based on their knowledge of core areas aligned with Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) standards. The examination has evolved over the years and is now offered by more than 400 U.S. colleges and universities.
In addition to measuring the competency of counselors-in-training, the CPCE’s reporting features provide schools with a wealth of valuable data to evaluate their programs, compare the performance of their students with national data, promote self-study, help shape future courses and examinations, and more.
The examination consists of 160 multiple-choice questions, with 20 items for each CACREP area: Human Growth and Development Theories in Counseling; Social and Cultural Foundations in Counseling; Helping Relationships in Counseling; Group Counseling Theories and Processes; Career Counseling and Lifestyle Development; Assessment in Counseling; Research and Program Evaluation; and Professional Orientation to Counseling.
Schools may offer the CPCE via Anywhere Proctored Browser (APB), Computer-Based Testing (CBT), and Web-Based Testing (OnVUE), and students have 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete it.
To learn more about offering the CPCE, program directors can visit www.cce-global.org, email us at cpce@cce-global.org, or call +1 336.482.2852.
