Iowa Mental Health Counselor Education Review Application

Iowa Mental Health Counselor Education Review applications are reviewed based on the requirements outlined in 645 Iowa Administrative Code, Chapter 31(154D) (Licensure of Marital and Family Therapists and Mental Health Counselors).

Effective July 6, 2011, the educational requirements for licensure as a mental health counselor in Iowa were changed. The education review application posted here reflects those changes. Pursuant to a grace period determined by the Iowa Board of Behavioral Science, CCE will review applications under both the old and new requirements until November 15, 2011. Any applications postmarked after that date will be approved only if they document completion of the new requirements.

Iowa Marital and Family Therapist Education Review Application

Iowa Marital and Family Therapist Education Review applications are reviewed based on the requirements outlined in 645 Iowa Administrative Code, Chapter 31(154D) (Licensure of Marital and Family Therapists and Mental Health Counselors).

Michigan LPC Application

Michigan LPC applications are reviewed based on the requirements outlined in R 338.1751 to R 338.1776.

US Virgin Islands LPC, LMFT & Substance Abuse Counselor Educational Equivalency Application

Title 27, Chapter 4a V.I.C. § 201-220b are the laws and rules that regulate mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, and substance abuse counselors. Per § 206, the following minimum requirements must be met in order to submit an application:

• Submit all information and documentation of credentials requested by the Board on the appropriate form as prescribed by the Board.
• Pay a non-refundable fee.
• Be at least 21 years of age, of good moral character, and not have been convicted of a felony or a crime of moral turpitude and must not be addicted to alcohol or drugs.
• Produce certified transcripts verifying satisfactory completion of educational course work or academic degrees as required.
• Have declared to the Board and agreed to continue the area of professional competence through a statement of profession intent, describing the intended use of the license, the client population with whom the application will work, the professional procedures the applicant plans to utilize, including the applicant’s theoretical orientation and preferred intervention strategies.
• Have validated the competencies declared in the Statement of Professional Intent as well as demonstrated knowledge of the appropriate professional counseling field by passing a written examination given by the Board twice a year in the Virgin Islands at times to coincide with the exam date given by the National Certifying Boards of the respective disciplines in the United States whose exams are employed by the Board.

State licensure application processes vary. Your state may specifically require the National Counselor Examination (NCE) or the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE). Some states require both examinations or allow you to choose which examination you will take. The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) has created a directory of state licensure board information to assist you in gathering important information and submitting the correct examination registration.

Identification

To enter the examination site, you will need to present two valid forms of identification, one of which must include a picture. Examples of acceptable IDs include a driver’s license or picture ID issued by the department of motor vehicles, a passport or a military ID. The name in your record must match the name on your ID.

Taking the Examination

The examination is administered by appointment only on dates authorized by CCE, Monday through Saturday beginning at 8 am with the last appointment at 5:30 pm. Please contact Pearson VUE for particular locations and details. Available dates will be indicated when scheduling your examination. Candidates are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

When to Expect Your Scores

If your state uses computer-based testing, you will receive an unofficial score report immediately after the exam. The official score reports will be sent to the State Board office approximately 30 business days after the exam administration window closes for the month. For your protection and confidentiality, scores are not released over the telephone.

Retaking the Examination

If you did not pass the examination, if applicable, you may re-register by logging into your Credentialing Gateway account. There will be a fee for exam re-registration.
