The Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) Registered Credential Training Provider (RCTP) program offers an avenue for universities providing specific courses in supervision to connect their students directly with the ACS credential. Universities that provide courses in supervision can apply through the RCTP program to have those courses recognized as meeting the educational/training eligibility requirements for the ACS credential and help their students achieve an important eligibility component for the credential application. Doctoral internships may also help students to meet additional eligibility requirements. Achieving the ACS will help students to receive recognition for the specialized training and experience they completed during their doctoral programs.
The ACS identifies mental health professionals who have met national professional supervision standards and promotes a clinical supervisor’s professional identity, visibility, and accountability. Fifteen states currently recognize the ACS as a supervision credential of choice. To earn the ACS, candidates are required to engage in training to ensure that they have a thorough understanding of the best practices in their chosen field.
RCTPs are dedicated to developing exceptional training programs, and many colleges and universities have existing counseling supervision training requirements in place that may already meet CCE’s criteria to be recognized as a registered training provider for the ACS.
The new program addresses the need for qualified and experienced supervisors, says Dr. Winifert Lawson-Graves, Director of Business Development and Marketing.
“CCE and the National Board for Certified Counselors are both valuable resources for individuals working in the counseling profession,” she says. “We know that there is a need for high-quality counseling supervisors, and we are further meeting that need by offering RCTP status to qualified counseling programs, ensuring that their graduates are recognized for the valuable supervision training they have completed as an ACS as they enter the job market.”
